Inscendence: The Key to the Great Turning
February 19-20
Sophia Center, Oakland, CA
Thomas Berry has emphasized that, to transform contemporary culture, “what is needed is not transcendence but ‘inscendence,’” the pan-human, psychospiritual descent to the underworld, leading to revelatory vision and an awakening to the numinous powers ever present in the phenomenal, more-than-human world in which we live. We’ll explore a nature-based map of human development, an eight-stage approach to growing whole that prepares the child and adolescent to one day embark upon the initiatory adventure of inscendence, the encounter with soul that ripens people into genuine adults and elders — visionary artisans of cultural change, trailblazers of what Joanna Macy calls the Great Turning of the twenty-first century.
